After a bright sunny day on Saturday we had this stunning sunset, so clear and vibrant, but after the sun went down a dangerously brutal cold set in at a –14 below. This kind of dip in temperature doesn’t happen often here in New Hampshire. It hurts to breath.

Today the temperature is 5 degrees outside, and I’m hold up warm and cozily in the living room writing out old family recipes. I purchased this cute little weaved wicker box 4.5” x 6.5” x 6” at the thrift store for $2. I brought it home cleaned it up and lined the bottom with fabric wrapped cardboard. I thought it would make a cute little recipe box, a ‘just because’ gift for my newlywed daughter.
Stay warm my friend and have a blessed day!
Outside another cold dark day of heavy snow with a mix of sleet. Here in the studio three walls of glass surround me, with no drapery hung to keep the chill from seeping through the old windowpanes. To brush the morning chill a way I sit in front of a ceramic electric heater with cupped hot coffee in hand.
I’m entranced in all the activity outside the windows. As the snow falls heavy, birds flutter about stocking their share of seed and berries before the squirrels come by to hoard it all. Two mourning doves roost huddled and puffy sheltered by evergreen. The unsteady cold wet wings of young juncos, levitate around the suet feeder like a group of scurried summer hummingbirds.
Today right brain is staring mindlessly out the window connecting with nature. Apparently, left-brain won’t be getting much accomplished today.
Stay well my friend and enjoy your day!

After procrastinating for a few days in my usual lazy manner (a cold winter not my season) reluctantly I finally stepped out for a walk. The clear blue sky and glow of sunshine were deceiving. It was bone chilling. In the quiet, snow crunched below my feet, as the echo of a lone woodpecker chisel into one of the 300ft. tall pines that surround the area.

Copper colored daubs of brittle oak leaves, and red berries strung from their branches line the road contrasting against the now dirty blanket of snow.

Out on the lake burning wood embers lingered in the air, while neighborhood fishermen set up bob houses.

The dark days of winter are beautifully painted if only a moment is taken to step outside and enjoy the gift of Mother Nature poised right before us.
Stay well my friend and have a blessed week!

Today, I switched it up a bit and ventured out of the studio and settled into Barnes & Noble on an artist date. Yes, I’m a work in progress– the “Women Who Spilled Words All Over Herself,” in 2010.
Hope you all are enjoying the start of this blessed New Year!
Stay well my friend!
