Ice Cream Sundae & Fuzzy Baby Ducklings

Comments Off

This past weekend the Architect and I splurged on a sundae for dinner {yes, we so bad!} over at the local ice cream stand, located on the property of a fourth generation working farm. When we visit we walk through the garden nursery to see what’s new, and then it’s out to the barn to say hello to all our barnyard friends.

As we were strolling along these cute little fuzzy baby ducklings wandered out of the confines of their pen in a leap towards something new, following mom closely.  Took us by surprise, often we see them in the pen with the others splashing around in a little tub of water.

After gardening out in the sun all weekend the ice cream sundae was so refreshing.  We’ve had some gorgeous weather lately full of sunshine and many blossoms. Keeping the spirits up with a good run of happiness, hoping it stays around a while. Life is good!

Stay well my friend!

Settling Down on Earths Floor

Fragile Cherry petals weaken
carried by the wind and rain
settling down on earths floor.

As feet carry with powerful strength
and heavy steps through a healing journey
settling down on earths floor.

A new season of fresh petals will blossom
filling the hollow without words only solace
settling down on earths floor.

Take it slow, breathe, fill the soul with life
new footsteps a appendage to soar
settling down on earths floor

Unraveling the petals of life letting go
step by step, petal by petal
settling down on earths floor.

A Glimpse of my Corner… and I think I like it!

Before: cluttered, corny, drab, and very uninviting.

This photo was taken back in 2005, and here it is 2010 pretty much looks the same other than an updated calendar and of course a bit more clutter. Saying that lightly here, because the calendar recently taken down this past weekend read 12/2009.

How pitiful? Betty Boop even looks demoralized!

After: a sparkle of inspiring solace.

I super glued cork {purchased in a roll} to the particle backboard of the desk. Strung a line of hemp cord to either side, and hung the photographs with some colorful clips to easily interchange the pictures with a new one.

New calendar purchased over at Jessica Doyle’s Etsy Shop. Stop by her shop, she’s a lovely, and very talented artist.

Have a  great weekend and stay well my friend.

Sweet Smell of Home

I’ve been itching to get outside in the sunshine and start the vegetable garden, but it’s still a bit early. This year I’ve wanted to add a few herbs to the garden. So today I headed out to the garden center and picked up a few to start. I came home with cilantro, Greek oregano, English thyme, golden lemon thyme, peppermint, red onion, chives and scallions. Every new week the nursery brings out a few more herbs, so I’ll stop back next week to see what they have.

While driving home the aroma of the mix filled the car reminding me of many childhood memories when our backyard gardens were the center of our everyday life. Like snapped stalks of tart rhubarb dipped in sugar, cucumbers drizzled with vinegar, salt, and pepper. My dad was always out working the garden, and you’d find Ma in the kitchen cooking, and stuffing the old Ball glass canning jars that she would tightly cap off with a chunk of wax before placing them in the pressure-cooker. Canning pickled relish, tomatoes, and beans to blackberry jam, loading the pantry shelves for the winter months. The pickled aroma was the sweet smell of home.
